Accessibility

What we aim for

This website targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We test with a keyboard, with a screen reader, at 200% zoom, and with reduced motion and increased contrast enabled.

What we have built in

• Every function works with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible, and a skip link jumps past the navigation.
• Semantic headings and landmarks throughout, so screen-reader users can navigate by structure rather than reading everything.
• Text contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body copy and 3:1 for large text and interface components.
• Dietary information, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, allergens, is written in words, never conveyed by colour or an icon alone.
• All motion, including the scrolling red band, stops entirely when your system asks for reduced motion. The band also pauses on hover and on keyboard focus, and its content is available as static text.
• Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels. Pinch-to-zoom is never blocked.
• Forms have real labels, clear error messages tied to their fields, and focus moves to the first problem when validation fails.
• The site is readable and usable at 200% zoom and at 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling.

Where we know we fall short

Being honest about the current limitations:

• Ordering. Online ordering is not live yet. Orders go by phone today, and that route always works.
• Map embed. The Google Maps embed on our location pages is a third-party component with known accessibility limitations. The full address, hours and transit directions are always available as plain text next to it, and never only inside the map.
• Photography. As we add photographs of the shop and the food, every one will carry descriptive alternative text. Any image that is purely decorative is hidden from assistive technology rather than given a meaningless description.

In the shop

We are a small storefront on Austin Street with around a dozen seats. If you need help getting in, want your order brought out to you, or would like the menu read aloud, call (347) 809-4195 and we will come out and sort it. Please just ask, we would rather you did.
